As part of the Italy–Saudi Arabia Business Forum organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), Acea signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mowah, a Saudi company operating in the water and energy infrastructure sectors.
Acea, Italy’s leading water operator and the second largest in Europe, serving 10 million people in Italy and 10 million abroad, signed an agreement with Mowah, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading water and wastewater companies, specializing in the development, construction, and maintenance of treatment facilities, to participate in the tender for the rehabilitation and operational management of wastewater treatment plants in Saudi Arabia. The agreement – signed by Pierfrancesco Latini, Chief Risk Management, Sustainability & International Officer of Acea, and Faisal Al Rayes, Chief Executive Officer of Mowah - aims to jointly participate in long-term projects under tenders launched by the National Water Company (NWC), the Saudi state-owned company responsible for water services and wastewater treatment. Established in 2008 and owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), NWC supplies water, collects and treats wastewater, and manages service tariffs according to commercial principles and international standards.
“The collaboration between Acea and Mowah, the leading player in the development and management of water and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, marks an important step in Acea’s internationalisation strategy and aims to contribute to water and environmental development, particularly in waste management. This agreement confirms our commitment to providing expertise, technologies, and operational capabilities to support the major transformation processes underway in the country under Vision 2030 - stated Pierfrancesco Latini, Chief Risk, Sustainability & International Officer of the Acea Group - For Acea, Italy’s largest water operator and the second largest in Europe, the prospect of supporting the development of resilient and technologically advanced water systems in a strategic market such as Saudi Arabia constitutes a highly significant opportunity. We are ready to work alongside Mowah and the Saudi institutions to generate shared value and promote sustainable water resource management models aligned with international standards and the Kingdom’s development priorities.”
“For Mowah, this partnership with Acea builds on our role as a developer and operator of integrated water, wastewater and power infrastructure across the region - said Faisal Al Rayes, Chief Executive Officer of Mowah - By combining Acea’s international experience with Mowah’s regional development and operations expertise, we will work together to modernize key wastewater assets, enhance reuse and environmental performance, and support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives for sustainable utilities and resilient communities”.
International Presence. Acea continues to expand its international footprint and is already active in Latin America, with a consolidated presence in Peru, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, where integrated water services reach more than 10 million people. In Peru, Acea manages operations including water abstraction, treatment, and supply, as well as maintenance of the water and sewage networks in Lima. In the Dominican Republic, the Group oversees the technical and commercial management of water services, while in Honduras it manages the water service in San Pedro Sula under concession. Acea also contributes to the steering committee of the Mattei Plan for the development of water infrastructure across the African continent.
The Business Forum brought together more than 900 companies, including around 500 Italian and over 450 Saudi firms, with the participation of Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid A. Al-Falih. Saudi Arabia is a priority country within Italy’s Export Action Plan, and the Business Forum takes place at a pivotal moment as the Kingdom undergoes a major economic transformation driven by the “Vision 2030” development programme.
