Ornella Segnalini, Councillor,  Raffaele De Marco, CEO of Areti, and Marco Delogu, President of Palaexpo, were present at the event

A special event marked the beginning of a new era for the Palazzo delle Esposizioni Roma, with the permanent illumination of its facade, the result of an innovative collaboration between Palaexpo, Areti, and Roma Capitale. Ornella Segnalini, Councillor for Public Works, Raffaele De Marco, CEO of Areti, and Marco Delogu, President of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, took part in a site visit and the official lighting ceremony, which took place last night during the public event.  

The intervention, carried out entirely by Areti, a company of the Acea Group that manages electricity distribution in the capital, involved an investment of 40 thousand euros and was approved by the Department of Infrastructure, Public Works, and the Superintendency. It contributes to the transformation of the lighting of the Palace’s main facade by replacing the old, outdated system with a cutting-edge solution. The permanent illumination of the Palazzo Esposizioni’s facade marks a new chapter of light for Rome, blending architectural beauty, technological innovation, and environmental sustainability.

Ornella Segnalini, Councillor, emphasized the importance of technological innovation: “Thanks to the use of LED technology and a flexible control system, we have achieved a more efficient and sustainable lighting system, with significant energy savings. This project represents an important step forward in enhancing our cultural heritage. The new lighting not only highlights the architectural beauty of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, but also helps make the surrounding area safer and more welcoming”.

Raffaele De Marco, CEO of Areti, stated: “This project is the result of expertise developed by Areti over the years, with the aim of combining artistic sensitivity and technological innovation in the field of architectural lighting. Through a homogeneous and controlled light projection, the architecture of the facade is enhanced, highlighting its details and fostering harmony with the urban context. This result was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Superintendency, which guided a design process that was attentive to and respectful of the vocation and function of Palazzo delle Esposizioni. Today, the most advanced technologies make it possible to create dynamic lighting scenarios that enhance the artistic heritage, making it more accessible, legible, and alive even during evening hours. With this intervention, Areti continues to tell the story of the city through light, in constant dialogue with historical memory and contemporary vision”.

One of the great achievements of the current Palaexpo leadership has been to preserve and enhance the beauty of the Palace, which was inaugurated in 1883. We thank Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome, and Ornella Segnalini, Councillor for Public Works, who have done so much to restore this area to its full splendour, including the repainting of the tunnel and the installation of noise-reducing asphalt. That tunnel is now used by thousands upon thousands of citizens each day, and starting tomorrow evening, they will find the illuminated façade of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni greeting them as they exit" stated Marco Delogu, President of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo.

Technical Details:

The intervention focused on the main facade of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni Roma. The old system, based on outdated technologies and high energy consumption, was replaced with a state-of-the-art LED system. Twenty 60W floodlights were installed, with a color temperature of 3500K, for a total power consumption of approximately 1,2 kW. The new system enables the creation of various lighting scenarios and allows for light intensity adjustment, ensuring personalized and energy-efficient illumination. Custom mounts were designed for the floodlights, with a design approved by the Superintendency.
