A total of 259 next-generation new LED fixtures have been installed, with a total power consumption of approximately 7.5 kW. In addition to that, the smart management system allows each light to be individually controlled, further optimizing energy consumption.
The intervention went beyond a simple replacement of old lights, involving a reorganization of the entire system and the enhancement of poorly lit areas, with the goal of achieving a more balanced and efficient result. The choice of a warm light (2700 K) ensures aesthetic continuity with other ancient bricks monuments, creating a welcoming atmosphere consistent with the historical context.
Trajan's Markets
Trajan’s Markets are a vast building complex constructed parallel to the nearby Trajan’s Forum and commissioned by Emperor Marcus Ulpius Trajan, who ruled from 98 to 117 AD. However, some brick stamps indicate that work had already begun between 94 and 95 AD, during the reign of Emperor Domitian, although most of the construction was carried out under Trajan.
The project was entrusted to the architect Apollodorus of Damascus, and the complex was inaugurated between 112 and 113 AD. The structure, which was particularly innovative, also served to contain and stabilize the Quirinal Hill, which had been reshaped to make room for the Forum.
The construction was carried out using the opus testaceum technique, which involved brick walls on the exterior with a concrete core inside. Travertine inserts — a material widely used in Roman architecture — were added to visually lighten the appearance of the façades.
