The new project for shared electric mobility by Luiss Green Mobility starts today: the first European university pilot project for the provision of E-mobility services and related smart services is being renewed ten years after its launch, thanks to the strategic collaboration with two exceptional partners: Acea and Renault Italia.
The new fleet composed of 12 Renault 5 for Electric Car Sharing was inaugurated today. It will be available to students, professors, and staff to facilitate mobility between Campuses and for leisure purposes.
Renault 5, a benchmark city car for the electric transition in Europe, was chosen for this E-mobility service thanks to its modern design that appeals to young people, its customizations, its connectivity, and its safety. Renault’s small electric car provides today’s digital-native youth with various applications via Google Play that allow them to listen to music, stay updated on sports and current events, have fun, and watch movies while parked or during charging.
On the road, the small and compact electric car stands out for its innovative driving experience, a range of up to 410 km according to the WLTP cycle, and top-class safety ensured by 26 driver assistance systems.
The management of digital services and charging will be available 24/7 directly through the Luiss App, thanks to the integration with the ICT platform based on B.O.M.T.S. (Banking Operations Maintenance Telematics and Security) technology developed by a.Quantum - Acea Group.
For the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which took place at the Luiss Campus in Viale Romania, the top management of the University and the project’s partner companies were present: Rita Carisano, General Manager of Luiss, Sébastien Guigues, CEO of Renault Italia, Fabrizio Palermo, CEO of Acea, and Enrico Resmini, CEO of a.Quantum.
«Universities have a central role in the transition towards a more sustainable society», stated Rita Carisano, General Manager of Luiss. «Our mission is not only to train young people who will be ready to face the world of work, but also to prepare them to become citizens who are aware of the challenges that await them. Projects such as the Green Mobility project fall within this vision. They make our campuses a model of sustainability for our students, inspiring them to reduce environmental impact in every aspect of their lives. This strong commitment is acknowledged at an international level as well, as demonstrated by the UI GreenMetric ranking, which every year awards the most sustainable universities worldwide. Since joining the ranking in 2018, Luiss has climbed over 200 positions, reaching 2nd in Italy and 13th worldwide. This confirms the constant focus on good environmental practices and, particularly, on green mobility”.
«We are enthusiastic that Renault 5 E-tech Electric becomes the beating heart of this sustainable mobility project promoted by Luiss. R5 is much more than just a car: it is an icon that reinvents itself, able to combine emotion, technology, and environmental responsibility. With its immediately recognizable design, its pop soul, and innovative spirit, it speaks the same language as the new generations, who are environmentally conscious yet eager for freedom and connection. We believe that R5 E-tech Electric can offer a unique and stimulating driving experience, responding with pragmatism and passion to the great challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s mobility.» stated Sébastien Guigues, CEO of Renault Italia.
“In the last two years”, underlined Fabrizio Palermo, CEO of Acea, “and, with the implementation of the Business Plan, Acea has reinforced its role as an infrastructure operator, a leader in the water sector, and a main player in the energy and environmental sectors. The great expertise of our Group qualifies us transversally as a national point of reference in the design, implementation, and management of infrastructure systems. This is all possible thanks to a renewed strategic focus on technological innovation, which also characterizes and distinguishes the Luiss Green Mobility project.”
“Supporting Luiss in designing and launching such an important project allowed a.Quantum to make a challenging mission tangible. Our goal is to design and implement secure and resilient infrastructure systems” added Enrico Resmini, CEO of a.Quantum “a.Quantum was created with the goal of enhancing the expertise of the Acea Group and putting it at the service of the industry and the country, through an integrated approach that places clients’ needs at the center to develop customized solutions.”
In addition to the Electric Car Sharing, the University already offers a shuttle service with electric and gas-powered shuttles, which connects the Via Parenzo and Viale Romania campuses free of charge, as well as charging infrastructure for electric vehicles within the Campuses, with 100% of the electricity used coming from renewable sources.
But that's not all. This year, the Green Mobility project is expanding with two additional initiatives thanks to the partnership with Acea: a study on the optimization of energy consumption and the introduction of energy flexibility at the University’s premises, which reinforces its role as a sustainable innovation laboratory.
The project, launched on the occasion of the European Mobility Week, represents a further step in the University’s broader commitment to developing high-impact activities aimed at environmental protection and demonstrates how the collaboration between the University and companies can generate value not only for those who live on the campuses every day, but also for the urban development of the area.
