11,000 students already involved across Italy through online educational courses

These days mark the beginning of the new edition of Acea Scuola, the awareness-raising project that this year focuses on water education and is aimed at elementary and middle school students in Lazio, Campania, Umbria, Tuscany, Molise, and Valle d’Aosta. The initiative is part of the three-year agreement signed a few months ago by Fabrizio Palermo, CEO of Acea, and Giuseppe Valditara, Minister of Education and Merit. The agreement promotes educational and informational activities on the integrated water cycle and the responsible use of water within the schools. 

In a first phase, over 11,000 students have had the opportunity to explore these topics through an online training course available on a dedicated platform. Delivered with an engaging and science-based approach, the educational courses offer a journey into the world of water, starting with an analysis of the global context and leading to practical advice and best practices for the conscious use of this resource, including saving and recycling water in everyday life.

These days mark the start of the second phase of the project. Participating schools have been given the opportunity to visit plants located in the regions where the Group operates: over 1,200 students have signed up to tour purification plants, water sources, and water management centres. Today it was the Capital’s turn: here, students, accompanied by Acea Ato 2 technicians, visited the control room of the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome’s monumental fountains managed by Acea. They also had the chance to discover the ancient Roman aqueduct Acqua Virgo, which has been operating continuously since 19 B.C. and still supplies water today for irrigating several of Rome’s parks and feeding a number of its fountains. Just a few days ago, students visited the purification plant in Fregene (Fiumicino). In the coming weeks, Acea Scuola will continue its tour through the other regions involved in the project.

Over the past few weeks, the national contest “Searching for the lost water drop: water reuse and saving” has been underway. As part of the competition, students are tasked with creating a short film focused on the theme of the water resource. Up for grabs are vouchers for the purchase of educational materials and the chance to take part in the “Acea Acqua Edu-Camp” campus, designed to combine water education with water sports, which will be held in the region of the winning class.
